Default Another Buyout

We introduced CORE, a line of cordless lawn equipment into Canada and have seen slow but steady growth. It is much better quality than the average box store product.
We learned today that MTD has purchased the company. Lovely. I see two scenarios. They will either dumb down and produce cheap copies in China for the mass merchants or more likely will take over distribution through their own network. Either way we lose it.
MTD Canada e-mailed our western sales manager, we handle the line in B.C. and Alberta, asking for a list of our Briggs and Stratton dealers. That took some nerve. The request was forwarded to the company president without comment.

Aw man, what a friggin bummer.. At least we find out now before placing a large spring order for them through Magneto Power. And it was a good friggin product too with much promise. I guess with MTD if you can't make a good product to compete, you have to throw your money around, buy out said competitor and then kill them off.

We learned today they are planning to leave distribution and service as is for two years then will likely take over through their system. Little incentive for us to do more than maintain our existing network while we look for some thing else.

I had actually seriously considered them and spoke with a sales rep about them. This sucks.
