What? You mean the shoe companies like Addidas and Nike won't be able to pay $8 a pair for their shoes and then turn around and sell them for $70 anymore? Imagine that, they'll have to start learning how to survive on 60% margins at a distribution level, and 20%-35% margins at a "dealer"/store level.

And maybe, just MAYBE, they'll start to understand the real value of a label that says "Made In USA" and actually means it.

Very good article, thanks for posting the link. You have to wonder who eats all the other costs associated with the Chinese OPE products. No parts or service support on poor quality products = lots of returns through the box stores.

It was inevitable. The Chinese are embarrassed by their reputation in the west and are desperate for North American goods, services and dollars. Southeast Asia is now the hot spot but where will the manufacturing facilities go when that cheap labor supply dries up?
